discussion 12
For this week’s discussion, I would like you to answer the following three questions:1.) Racial privilege is only one form of privilege. What are other examples of privilege? (e.g., privilege based on gender, sexual orientation, class, and religion). Can you think of ways one might have privilege based on these factors? (e.g., that you do not have to worry about being verbally or physically harassed because of your sexual orientation; or you can be sure that your religious holiday will be acknowledged and represented in store displays, classroom discussions, etc.). Please list these forms of privilege.2.) After watching the documentary on whiteness, do you feel that your feelings about white privilege have changed? Did it impact your views on the concept of white privilege? Please explain.3.) After watching the Unnatural Causes videoclip and reading the lecture notes that accompany the videoclip, what are your reactions/thoughts? What scenes or pieces of dialogue stuck out to you in these video clips? In your own words, how does the distribution of power, wealth, and resources shape opportunities for health? Be sure to include details and a specific example in your response to the last question.Video clips of Documentary of Whiteness are on the youtube. Please search “Mirrors of Privilege: Making Whiteness Visible” on the youtube. There are 4 video clips.
Also, I’ll upload the lecture note for question 3. There are 3 links for video clips from Unnatural Causes to screen. You can press CTRL+CLICK to follow the link.
I’ll upload our lecture note and power point. Also, you might need to read chapter 8 from our textbook.
