Summary of Topic: This introductory topic will begin to address the fundamental tenets of diplomacy and establish what your own views are. The main aim of the week is
to provide awareness to students of the conceptual foundation to understanding diplomacy. The following topics areas should be considered:- recognition of states

– diplomatic relations/consular relations
– representation
– ambassador (and other ranks)
– diplomats/diplomatists
– diplomatic service/diplomatic corps
