Assignment: Respond to a classmate’s forum post as from a classmate critique on how he/she answered the following UNDERLINED forum post instructions/questions:
Questions to answer:1) Describe some reasons why Linux is installed on only a very small fraction of desktop computers. Are there particular categories of products or
users who might see Linux as more appealing than conventional operating systems? Do you think Linux’s share of the desktop market will increase? Why or why not?2) What
are some of the benefits of cloud computing? What are some of the drawbacks? Find an article about cloud computing online. Summarize and critique the article in your
own words. Be sure to include the url of the article.3) Describe the hardware and software requirements of your chosen information system. Be sure to consider both the
server-side and client-side hardware and software. If you do not have access to specific details about the server-side hardware and software, make reasonable
assumptions based on the kind of hardware and software that you believe would be necessary to run your system.
The classmate forum post to be peer evaluated is in bold here (JamesGInfo): Linux is installed on only a small fraction of desktop computers because most operating
systems are Windows based. Linux has the potential to be an excellent operating system. However, its main use is collecting data and rounding errors. “Amazon alone is
suing as many as half a million Linux servers in data centers. Linux, on the other hand, has never really been more than a rounding error” (Bradley, 2012, para. 3).
From researching information about the Linux operating system. I found that most people or organizations that have used the operating system, thinks Linux has too many
ins-and-out. Meaning, there are a number of menus and work arounds to the system, which makes it time consuming when using it. This maybe the another reason why the
operating system is not installed on a number of desktops. People and organizations find the system simple but complex. I also learned that it is not a big contender
in the desktop market because of Microsoft and Apple. Microsoft and Apple could help to boost the aspect and features of the system but are willing not too because it
is not in the same league. Cloud-computing is very beneficial to organizations. Cloud-computing can help to “reduce the size of their own data centers, or eliminate
their data center footprint altogether. The reduction of the number of servers, the software cost, and the number of staff can significantly reduce IT costs without
impacting an organization’s IT capabilities” (Cole, 2014, para. 5). Cloud-computing is also inexpensive, upgrades are available immediately and released frequently. It
is also mobile, which means it can be used on a tablet, laptop, or smart phone. One drawback of cloud computing, which I am familiar with is the fact that it is of no
use if you do not have access to the internet. The software and hardware requirements for QuickBooks includes a minimum of 2GB of ram, a CD-ROM Drive, 2.4 GHz
processor, Internet access, 2.5 GB of disk space, etc….”QuickBooks is capable of integrating with hundreds of third party applications such as MS Office/365, Adobe
Acrobat Reader, Payroll and other online features and services, etc…” (QuickBooks, 2015, para. 1). QuickBooks. (2015). System requirements for quickbooks 2015 and
enterprise solutions 15.0. Retrieved, 2016. We
