Problem Solution Report I
When holding the 5lb stone in equilibrium, the humerus H, assumed to be smooth, exerts normal forces FC and FA on the radius C and ulna A as shown. Determine these
forces and the force FB that the biceps must exert on the radius for equilibrium. Neglect the weight of the arm. If we replace the rock with a 10lb log that spans
between two arms, are the forces the same in each arm? How could we reduce the force required of the biceps FB to hold the log by 50%? Using a maximum force in each
biceps of 50lb, what is the maximum load of logs that can be carried by the pair of arms? Assume the logs are 5in in diameter and you can only fit 3 along the forearm.
Assume that logs cannot touch the bicep (Edge of log cannot pass point location of the tail of FB)
