Listen several times, and try to detect the changes that occur. What instrument(s) do you hear? Can you hear a steady beat? Is the rhythm metrical? What voices do you hear? How many players do you think are performing? Does the tempo change? Do you hear a repeated chorus? How would you describe the timbre of the voice(s)? What is the texture? What do you hear that reminds you of what you heard in the lecture? You heard music that originated in several different areas – Spain, South America, Cuba, Mexico, etc. – in which area do you think you would find the roots of your song?
