Different strategies have been mitigated in an attempt to prevent mass movements that can endanger lives. For each ofthe following,

research the method of mitigation, and describe how it works, including identifying the type of potential mass movement and howthe method can prevent it. Are there advantages and/or disadvantages to each? Explain your answers.

a. With the use of rock bolts where discrete blocks in a rock mass might fall from the face ofa cliff, the bolts act as anchors to secure blocks to the stable rock mass.

b. The Beartooth Highway, which serves as the northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park, is among the highest-elevated highways in the country.
Concerns about mass movements led engineers to cover large exposed areas above the road with a concrete layer.

c. Loud noises (explosions) are used to trigger small snow avalanches in avalanche-prone areas.
