The Florida Legislature — Legislative session

Examine the legislative branch of Florida’s state government. What is the Florida legislature? What are its two chambers, and how many members serve in each? Who are the current leaders of the two chambers (their names and titles of their offices)? When does Florida’s regular legislative session begin, and when does it end? How often does it occur? Where is the regular legislative session held, and what are some of the key issues currently being debated and discussed? Find at least one piece of current legislation (a bill being proposed) or at least one major area of policy dispute from earlier this year (2016) or for this upcoming, next year (2017) and provide information about this piece of legislation or area of policy. Who are its proponents? Who are those opposed? What are your views on the bill or issue, and what groups agree with your position/disagree with your position? Finally, does Florida have a balanced budget requirement? Be sure to use at least one outside news article and to properly cite your work.
