Comparative Analysis Paper #2
The second major paper in LING 100 is a Comparative Analysis. The comparative analysis asks you to compare
the arguments of two readings:
Kaminer, Trading Liberty for Illusions
The Economist, If Looks Could Kill
A comparative analysis requires you to compare HOW the authors make their arguments. You will compare
the claims of each reading, and the kinds of evidence or examples used in the two readings. A comparative
analysrs is not a simple compare and contrast or summary, and you should remain objective and avoid giving
your opinion about the topic itself.
For the WPA ia-class writing that we just completed, you analyzed the argument of Kaminer in Trading Liberty
for lllusrons. For the comparative analysis essay, you will compare the strategies that each author uses in the
essay.
