Current Event

Locate, copy, and discuss a newspaper or magazine article about a current event involving questionable or debatable ethical behavior. (The article should relate to the human service field and involve human services professionals (counselors, social workers, etc.)

The majority of the paper (about 2/3) should cover the following six questions:

1. What was the ethical mistake and/or issue?

2. Choose one ethical theory (utilitarianism, virtue, etc.) and discuss what this theory has to say about the ethical issues involved in the article.

3. Using the two codes of ethics chosen for the week 2 discussion board assignment, what do these two professional codes have to say about the ethical issues involved in the article?

4. What would you do in a similar situation?

5. Do you think this article gave you a complete picture of the issue? What else might you need to know to thoroughly understand the issue?

6. Is there any other information you might want to know or questions you might want answered before making an ethical judgment about this information?
