RE: My Attitude Towards Religion in America

Order Description

somewhat stuck between two of the attitudes, Pluralist and Empathetic Interest in Other People. I would consider myself to be a Christian, but I don’t necessarily agree with other Christians. A discussion with any older southern Baptist will result them becoming upset with me, and be frustrated with them. This is due mostly to how we understand the same scripture. I do feel like I can learn from other religions. I feel like all religions started with a sincere emotional movement of the soul. I also believe that throughout time, man has changed the “original” meaning to suit the culture of their time. I believe this to be true with Christianity and most likely with other religions as well. I find the strongest evidence of how culture influences religion is the value of women and their status in society. I feel blessed to be an American where the government does not dictate what religion is “correct” and where the government protects your right for religious freedom. The one thing that I hope to take-a-way from this course is a better understanding of the Muslim and Islamic religion. I want to understand where these followers are coming from and try to understand their point of view, and how that point of view might or might not line up with the foundations of America.
