Identify the concepts and principles associated with people and organisational management in the context of construction and the built environment.

Describe the theory, models and practice underlying the management of people in organisations and discuss the differences between leadership and management.

Explain the factors that influence organisational structures and systems, the people management processes employed and the impact of management upon people’s behaviour in organisations.

Apply knowledge, theories and skills to a range of practical situations, presenting and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data effectively.
Task 1
To demonstrate by way of a Report, an understanding of the key attributes of world class leadership and consider how far these are evidenced in the Built Environment Sector.
The results of your research should be submitted as a Report and should include the following sections:
(A) Discussion
(B) Analysis.
In the discussion section you should consider:
i. in theory and reality, the key attributes of a world class leader;
ii. what a leader within the Built Environment Sector would need to do to be seen as world class.
In the analysis section, for your own organisation, or one with which you are familiar, you should consider:
i. whether your Senior Team either lead or manage;
ii. what realistic changes you would propose to the existing leadership and/or management styles.
It will be important to:
• select an organisation from within the Built Environment Sector as the basis of your report;
• benchmark and compare aspects of difference leadership and management styles demonstrated in your own organisation to what happens elsewhere;
• support all your key areas of discussion with evidence and examples, both conceptual/theoretical and pragmatic/workplace;
