Reflect on the three criteria for persuasive argument: Ethos, Logos, Pathos. Choose at least one of the assigned readings to analyze for use of these rhetorical devices to support a persuasive argument.
What is the primary argument the author makes? How does she or he support the position? Provide at least 3 examples/quotes and examine their rhetorical qualities in this week’s original post.

Each original post should be composed of 3 paragraphs that include an introduction, body, and conclusion. The introduction must contain a thesis statement that is clearly identifiable. The content development of the essay should focus on a specific thematic idea found in the chosen text. Use reader response criticism as the formal method of analysis. Follow my outline if you wish to be certain that you meet the basic OP assignment requirement.
• Due Date — literary essays are due by Thursday evenings, replies to others’ literary essays are due by Sunday evenings. I will not give credit for literary essays that are posted after the Thursday deadline.
• Format — Use basic block paragraph structure to format the literary essay. There must be clear line spacing between paragraphs. DO NOT post file attachments to the discussion forums.
• Thesis statement — Underline and embolden the thesis statement so we can all see it clearly.
• Quotes from the literature — Just like an argument or informative essay, literary response requires evidence and example. Be sure to include at least 3 quotes from the literature to illustrate/exemplify your statements of interpretation.
• Use MLA documentation guidelines for all in-text quotes, summaries, and/or paraphrases.
• Replies to others’ Original Posts — Avoid “cheer-leading” replies, such as “I agree with you”,etc. See Discussion Forum Netiquette in for specific details and rules.
• Reading the Discussion — I can see how many original posts and replies everyone reads each week. It is not acceptable to simply post a literary essay and a couple of replies in one thread and be finished. We are all responsible for reading the entire discussion each week. The discussion forum is where the heart of this course lies; in the forums we share and explore multiple views on literature, symbolism, and thematic ideas. If you aren’t reading the discussions, you aren’t participating fully in the course.
Basic Essay Structure

This is a generic outline that can be used for any type of academic essay. The content references lay out the minimum requirements for good essay structure and paragraph development.
Introduction –

Example to illustrate the point/idea/problem
Thesis statement
