Selected Competency Area for Focus

How can improvement in this area enhance success in your current and future work? How will improvement in this area help you and your team (and eventually the
teams and organizations you work for) better achieve key priorities?
Interpersonal understanding Unlike some years ago when one would seldom interact with people from different backgrounds, which is no longer the case in the 21st
Century. Therefore, it is key that I am well versed on not only interacting with people from different backgrounds but to also work together with people who are from
different background. As a health professional, I work with some colleagues and also attend to some patients who are from different backgrounds hence the need for
good interpersonal skills. I have already been reading on how to improve interpersonal skills and also intend to enroll for some classes that focus on how one can
improve interpersonal skills. By having better interpersonal skills, I will be able to not only effectively interact with my team members but to also offer better
services to my clients.
Team Leadership As a team leader, I need to be well versed in leadership skills as I would not be able to be an effective leader without good leadership
skills. Thus I need to be able to work with people from different background, motivate the team members towards achievement of the set target, and immediately solve
any issues that might emerge. I have already attended some leadership sessions where I have become aware of various concepts and approaches that can be applied in
different leadership situations. I am also reading various books on leadership. As I become a better leader, I will be able to motivate my team members towards
offering better services and doing their best to ensure that patient satisfaction rates are improved.
Self development I am aware that I constantly need to be developing various skills so that in the future, I am a better person as well as a professional.
Through this process, I have became aware that the self development process is a never ending process and will continue for a long time. I need to have clear
specific goals pertaining to the various aspects that I need to develop on. The fact that health care is always changing implies that I need to keep learning and
developing as that is the only way that I will be able to be effective.
