Preparing your response to the UNCC100 Assessment Task 2
You may wish to use the following as a framework to support your essay writing, PowerPoint
presentation, or video presentation (and accompanying transcript). Each of the black bold font headings
could act as headings in your own writing (if your academic reference system allows for headings) or
video presentation.
Introduction
a) Description of the issue (100 words)
A succinct description of what the issue is about with possible references to geography, time, people
concerned, reasons for the issue arising, and any relevant data; back up writing with references to
literature found on LEO (using your academic reference style).
b) Reasons why this issue is one which affects the common good (100 words)
An explanation of why the issue affects the common good; state for whom this issue is unjust and in
what ways; you may wish to provide a definition of the common good; back up writing with references
to literature found on LEO (using your academic reference style).
Body of essay
a) Stakeholders involved in this issue and analysis of their perspectives (700 words)
Provide a succinct description and explanation of three stakeholders’ perspectives/beliefs (about 200-
250 words per stakeholder) about the issue; explain why the perspective/belief is held, and what that
stakeholder may want to see happen in relation to this issue; you may want to discuss how these
perspectives differ and reasons for this difference; back up writing with references to literature found on
LEO (using your academic reference style).
b) Analysis of the issue in relation to the common good and the principles of human
flourishing (800 words)
Describe how human flourishing and the common good are compromised in the issue; possibly provide
a definition for the common good and human flourishing (as well as their defining characteristics);
explain that the issue can be analysed using principles of human flourishing; identify three principles
which are most relevant to this issue, and discuss why and how they are relevant; use these principles to
critique the perspectives of the stakeholders you have discussed; comment on whether particular
stakeholder perspectives support or hinder the common good; back up writing with references to
literature found on LEO (using your academic reference style).
Conclusion
A proposed resolution for realising the common good (300 words)
Provide a reasoned resolution that links the stakeholders’ perspectives, the principles of human
flourishing and the common good; suggest particular actions which each stakeholder could/should take
to promote the common good; suggest specific actions which society as a whole could/should take to
promote the common good; state how the characteristics of the common good could be realised with the
resolution; back up writing with references to literature found on LEO (using your academic reference
style).
