PROJECT GUIDELINES AND TEACHING PLAN PROJECT REPORTS

(a) All information should be collected, arranged in order and written up, photos

and drawings added and the whole report checked and mistakes removed. Quality ofthe report is very important.

(b) The length should be

not less than 6,000 words).

(c) Content is more important than length, ie. Technical information/results obtained, original thoughts and

ideas, completeness o conclusions. As much useful information as possible should be obtained from a limited amount of data, and a positive
forward looking approach should be used, pointing towards a possible solution and likely future developments.

(d) The style should be

concise, as clear as possible without wasting any words. Atechnical report is designed to conv ey information as quickly and clearly as
possible. SpeIIing/ Grammar mistakes should be eliminated in the final report, asthey can be very distracting to the reader. The
presentation should be as attractive as much as possible.

Acknowledgements (optional).

4. Abstract – a summary ofthe content (a brief project background and your

conclusions or recom mn ed atios)

-150 words maximum.

5. Table of contents.

6. Table of figures and Tables (optional – if your report consist of a significant number of

tables and figures).

7. Introduction, (i) Background ofthe project and the significance of it to you and others (including

MeIbourneMctoria); (ii) Objectives ofthe project – you could include three objectives (two may be specificto your project- technical
and other one can be related to the learning outcomes by conducting this project – generic skills mentioned in Page 2 ofthis
document).

8. Literature review- In this section you could include the data and information collected from your literature search from

ejournals, magazines, websites,text books, government databases and other articles. Please note that you need to cite the relevant
references correctly in the text (using Harward method) and include the details ofthe reference in the reference list. You must NOT “copy
and paste” any section from these articles, but you maytake the fact and write using your own words. Please divide this section into
several sub-sections depending on the framework of your project.

9. Discussion -This isthe most important section and you need to

analyse the above information (found via literature search) througly and discuss logically.

10. Recommendatios and conclusions: Briefly

state the final outcomes ofthis project based on your discussion above. Clear and definite conclusions should be drawn, stating how farthe
aims have been achieved and suggesting future workto be done.

11. References: This is an important part ofiyour report. List of

references should be in alphabeticle order. lease use Harward style to detail the references.

12. Appendix: Any important materials

relevant to the topic or supporting evidences should be attached to this section. These appendices must be referred in the text
appropriately.
