Look at an organization’s mission statement. Use your previously acquired research knowledge to research in mission statements. Use the web as needed to discover
examples of mission statements and discussions explaining how to use them.
Your document should have two parts:
Part I: Include a paragraph summarizing three of the resources that you discovered in your research process. These may be articles describing what should be in a
mission statement or you can use examples of mission statements that you have found. Make sure to include information on each of the resources (location, author,
publication, etc.)
Part II: Write or rewrite the mission statement for an organization. You may choose your current employer, an organization you would like to be a part of or an
organization you would like to start. What would you like the organization to value and hold important? What do you think the employees should understand and value?
Think about the concepts that should be communicated and then analyze each word being used. If you are rewriting a current mission statement, please make sure to
include the both the current one and your rewrite.
Please explain your thoughts and reasoning behind the choices made in what you included (or left out) in writing your mission statement. Don’t just repeat the research
that you have found on mission statements. Be specific. Why include a specific value and leave out another? Why mention a specific audience (children, parents,
students, elderly, home owners, etc.)?
Make sure that you include any sources quoted, paraphrase, or summarized in a bibliography at the end. Your essay should be in APA format and be at least 900 words.
Make sure to include the journal citation as well.
