Does it increase women’s power in society, or is it a way of forcing them to comply with socially constructed views of what women ‘should’ look like? Does surgery empower women’s control of their bodies, or does it alienate women from their bodies? Is there a difference between ‘reconstructive surgery’, say following surgery, and ‘comestic surgery’, linked to dissatisfaction with the way the body is, or are they basically the same, for good or bad?

These deeper, more critical questions will be important for putting together a really persuasive and well-argued piece.
