Write a 6- to 7-page argumentative essay on ANY TWO of the themes covered in weeks 7-9: Environmental justice/disobedience, Art, and Civilization. In addition to analyzing the themes you should attempt to integrate elements of your initial descriptive essay into this final piece of work. Beyond the class texts, you should use TWO FURTHER academic articles (using a Google Scholar search through the PSU library online resources page) relevant to your topics. All sources used should be directly cited multiple times.

Expectations and Grading: This is an argumentative essay that defends and elaborates on a critical position related to your presentation topics. An argument essay begins with a precise thesis statement on the topic (1 page), articulated in the first person (i.e. “In this paper I will argue …”); it then goes on to elaborate on your thesis (2-3 pages); consider counter-arguments (2 pages); and then present rebuttals to defend your thesis against objections and conclude (1-2 pages).

Grading criteria: a) clear and precise thesis statement and elaboration (5pts); b) demonstration of detailed engagement with class readings from weeks 7-9 and the further reading (see below) (15pts); c) good balance of argumentation for and against your thesis (10pts); d) demonstration of reflection on topic and your own thinking about it (10pts).
