Individual Learning Exercise: ECMO
Today’s exercise is designed for you to use your search skills and learn about the principles of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).
ECMO is one of a family of life support techniques known in modern practice as Extracorporeal Life Support (ELS) which includes ECMO and Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB). There is a wealth of on-line information and other resources on these techniques relating to their use, configuration, indications and complications. Please spend the time allocated to this assignment looking into ECMO and CPB and answer the following questions:

1. What is ECMO and what is it used for?
2. What is the difference between ECMO and CPB in terms of the technologies used?
3. What are the latest advances ECMO?
