A distillation column will be fed 1951bm*mole/h of a mixture containing 60 mole percent hexane
(component A) and 40 mole percent octane (component B). The feed will enter as a saturated
vapor. The distillate stream will have a hexane mole fraction of 0.93 and will contain 90% of the
hexane that enters in the feed system. An L/V value of 1.3 times the minimum will be used. The
y vs x curve for this system is given in Figure 2. Determine the following:
A. The flow rates of the distillate and bottoms product streams.
B. The hexane mole fraction in the bottoms-product stream.
C. The number of trays required and the optimal feed tray.
