The Metamorphosis

Read The Metamorphosis by Frank Kafka and answer the following question How would you describe Gregor’s family and how do his feelings for his family change over the course of the story? How would you characterize his family’s reaction to his “metamorphosis”? How is Gregor’s metamorphosis similar to Grete’s, and how does it differ? What does the end represent? Give your opinion to this classmate: Gregor’s family was described as they were dependent on Gregor working as salesman for them to live in the apartment that they were living in. At first Gregor feels bad that he has changed in to a giant bug and is not bale to go and work to provide for his family. After seeing everyday how his family was deteriorating, he felt more and more sad and helpless towards his family’s situation. He notices his sister at first was feeding him and caring for him and slowly she started doing it with less and less emotion to the point that he decided to die to not feel like a burden for them anymore. He also knew his mom was not allowed to see him and when she finally did she fainted. He felt as he was doing something wrong to them. His family’s reaction to his metamorphosis was not accepting at all, his mom was not even aware of what he looked like because the father and sister were not allowing her to see him after his condition. Gregor and Grete’s metamorphosis are similar because Grete regains her strength and her parents think of giving her a husband and being sort of a provider for the family, which is that Gregor was to them, and it differs because it appears that Grete finds her strength and beauty again and Gregor felt weaker and uglier once the metamorphosis happened. The end represents the absurdity of life.
