commercialization of education and its negative impacts on society

Description
Final Research PaperAs you will see on the course syllabus, this final term paper represents a significant portion of your grade, so please pay close attention to the
assignment. Goals: This assignment allows you (either individually or as a member of a group) to closely examine a topic of your choosing so long as it can be directly
related to a social, political, and/or ethical aspect of business. You are expected to find a topic that inspires you, one in which you are actually interested in
doing in-depth, individual research. Structure: You may choose one of two structures: (1) take a stand on the issue(s) you have chosen and argue from your perspective,
or (2) present in a balanced manner both sides of the issue(s). In either case you must have done balanced and thorough research (crazy uncle Bob is not a legitimate
source), and you may draw on various concepts from lectures, section, and from course readings. The strength of your argument is critical to your grade for this
assignment. If you choose to present a balanced argument, do not interpret this option as an opportunity to do less thorough analysis for both sides of the argument.
Both arguments should be compelling and well supported.Style: If you simply write a book report with a short paragraph of analysis, expect a very poor grade on this
assignment. It is of paramount importance that you critically examine the topics you put forth in your paper. Here are some HINTS: – Choose a topic that interests
you. This cannot be stressed enough. You will produce a much better paper if you are interested in the topic. However, make sure that your issue is related to the
class. “Why the Chicago Cubs will never win the World Series,” while both interesting and true, has little to do with this class. Make sure your topic is relevant to
business- Don’t be too broad. A topic like “China” would be impossible to cover well in most text books, let alone a term paper. “China’s Growth and its Effects
on CO2 Emissions,” or something similar, would be much better. – Don’t be too narrow. If your topic is too limited you will end up trying to fill up 8 pages
with fluff. You are expected to write clearly and efficiently. Grammar and spelling do count. This is true both in this class, and in life. If English is not your first
language, or you just want some help with writing, the Student Learning Center in the Caesar Chavez Center has writing tutors on staff who are an incredible resource
for you. Format: This paper is expected to be 8-10 pages per person not including: (1) an optional appendix for graphs or other notes, and a required bibliography for
source material. Please use 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced with 1” margins. Grading: Do not expect that this assignment will be graded lightly. The term paper
represents a significant portion of your final grade, and as such you are expected to perform well. You will be graded on content (depth of analysis, persuasiveness
and relevance to the course) and style (clarity, grammar, punctuation and spelling).
