NO separate documents – the project with all the visuals MUST be submitted in ONE document (Word or PDF).
This Project has 4 major components and you will be graded on each component:
Part 1 – ORAL HISTORY:
You need to find your oldest living relative OR oldest living relative of a friend OR someone from a retirement home. They MUST have lived through and have memories of World War 2 or the Great Depression or even earlier memories are great as well. You will conduct an oral history interview with that person. You will ask them pointed questions about their life and experiences. You will then compile their answers into a 6-8 page narrative. (20%)
This must be written in third-person with their names being used. If they wish to remain anonymous then you can use a pseudonym.
Part 2 –THE FACTS:
You will choose ONE MAJOR EVENT from the above interview and research it. For example, if they discuss the Stock Market Crash, you need to research what happened there, causes and results. You MUST use a MINIMUM of 3 sources for this portion of which at least ONE must be a primary document. This will be a minimum of 3-5 pages. (20%)
This will also be written in third-person and more like a brief research paper format.
Part 3- WHAT IF?:
Once you have written part 1, you will then put yourself in that person’s place. You will create a narrative of what your life would look like had you grown up during that period in history. This part is personal, but also based on historical accuracy. This will be a minimum of 2-3 pages. (20%)
This part may be written in first-person. This is a narrative so tell the story from your perspective.
Part 4- WHO I AM TODAY:
This part is very personal and is meant as a reflection for you. What defines you? What experiences have made you who you are today? How has the time period you grew up in/are growing up in affected your life and/or choices? This will be a minimum of 2-3 pages. (10%)
This will also be written as a first-personal narrative. Almost as though you are describing yourself to someone who does not know you too well. Use incidents from your life to explain what defines you and how those experiences have made you who you are today.
Part 5 GRATITUDE:
Write a letter to someone who has influenced your life and helped form you as a person. You then need to ask them to write a letter of advice or encouragement for you. You will include both letters in your folder. This should be 2-4 pages. (10%)
Part 6: TABLE OF CONTENTS/CITATIONS:
You MUST include a Table of Contents. Using proper MLA, you must document all of your sources. This should be 1-3 pages. (10%)
The Table of Contents will be at the beginning of your project and the References (Citations) page will be at the end of the Project.
