Fast Foods and Health of the Americans

 
With the economy becoming fast-paced, the lifestyles of people have transformed to match up the pace. Long gone are the days when women were housewives and could
prepare every meal from their kitchen for the family. As mothers get worn out at work, they have less time to spend preparing meals for their families hence go the
fast foods way. The youth have also become less with their hunger sorted fast by the fast food restaurants claiming convenience. However, there are numerous effects
owing to the consumption of these fast foods (No Author, 2004).
Fast foods are a major threat to the health of the American nation as a whole as majority of fast food restaurants offering junk foods. A larger proportion of fast
foods are made out of sub-standard meats taken from low quality animals. Through this the likelihood of contacting and spreading a disease is relatively high as the
meat is taken from different animals and different b parts that are less inspected for diseases. With fast foods, the possibility of nationwide poisoning is so high
with the flavors that are added to the fast foods to make them captivating and draw more customers with good taste forming harmful complex chemicals. The unbalanced
diet resulting from the consumption of fast food increases the chances of fatal health conditions, such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and
colon cancer. Those that who eat fast food more than twice a week have a two-fold increase in insulin resistance hence insulin does not process effectively, hence
abnormal accumulation of sugar to circulate in the blood stream hence increased chances of diabetes and heart diseases (National Institute of Health, 2004).
The health of many teenagers and children is at stake of danger with fast foods. The obesity epidemic is much as a result of fast foods. The processing of fast foods
makes them more dangerous as compared to organic unprocessed foods. The large amounts of fat, sugar, salt, and artificial additives in processed food can have negative
effects on long-term health. People who regularly consume fast food overload their bodies with unhealthy additives since a single meal from a fast food restaurant
often contains enough calories to satisfy one person’s daily caloric requirement. Due to the high consumption of fats and salts, in combination with a low intake of
fiber and vitamins, people are more likely to gain weight and damage their health by eating fast food on a regular basis (National Institute of Health, 2004).
