HAZUS STUDENT PRACTICAL EXERCISE

HAZUS STUDENT PRACTICAL EXERCISE

Scenario: You have been hired as the new Emergency Management Coordinator for your County/City. The Mayor has asked for you to prepare him a briefing on flood analysis and hazards so he and his staff can be better prepared if a flood did actually take place. Your briefing will include a PowerPoint presentation and a map (11×17). EXTRA CREDIT: DISPLAY BOARD

Additional Information: Use your skills you just learned to apply to another area for flood analysis. You may also choose an area of interest to you, but it must be in Ohio and have flood potential. The default area is Canal Fulton, Stark County. You may use an area in Summit County but must start from scratch.
In your PowerPoint Presentation you should briefly explain HAZUS in: identifying Emergency Preparedness, Loss Reduction, and Response and Recovery as necessary. Use your knowledge in your EM major. Also see HAZUS Introduction PowerPoint pages 6,7,8 in your notebook. A history of flooding in your area/research is also recommended.

Items to turn in to Mayor: Color Map (11×17), PowerPoint (4 slides to page, color)

Try to problem solve your own issues; asking Instructor for assistance if needed, but try yourself first! This is an educational critical thinking “project” (start to finish) working with spatial data. Use your best GIS Skills.
