HIV and cardiovascular disease

HIV and cardiovascular disease

Order Description

Purpose: To determine if there is a correlation to the duration of HIV infection and the development of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD).
Secondary outcome: Correlation between HIV duration with the development of specific CV Diseases such as dilated CMP or Myocardial infarction.

Introduction:
• We want to start off by expressing the importance of this research project. Specifically mention the increase prevalence as well as incidence of HIV in South Florida. Mention the statistic gathered from the studies listed below.
• Go into the average length of survival with current HAART therapy and the leading causes of death in patients with HIV (pHIV). Illustrate the contrast between causes of death over the last 30 years and which causes of mortality have been shown to decrease as well as which ones have risen.
• Transition into Cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death in pHIV. (locate 2-3 articles to back this up). Mention the various forms of pHIV CVD outcomes (cite previous paper).
• Mention how pHIV develop CVD at an earlier age then non HIV individuals. Postulate on the possible etiologies. Is it because of genetics? The virus? The pathophysiological responses of the body trying to adapt to the virus.
• Begin to speak on the lack of a stardardize Cardiovascular risk predictor in pHIV. Mention any studies that have been attempts. Be sure to mention their shortcomings.
• Transition into pHIV lifespan with the disease prior to developing CVD. Is there a correlation between the length of time an individual has HIV and them developing CVD. Also look at the correlation between pHIV and MI, pHIV and dilated cardiomyopathy.
