In this course, you had an opportunity to examine some of the specific areas in which human services professionals intervene in the lives of families and children to help keep children safe. Throughout the term, you used the readings, the audiotape shows, and the websites to do research in your specific area targeting specific populations. You also developed strategies throughout the term that could improve the condition of children who receive services. In some units, you were asked to reflect on your role as a human services professional. One of the most important aspects of your job is knowing what services are available for your clients.
Begin your evaluative essay with a discussion about your knowledge of intervention resources in your area prior to completing this assignment. Did you think it would be difficult to access them? Why or why not?
Next, you will locate an agency in your area that provides services for each of the following social problems:
• Child Abuse/Family Preservation
• Domestic Violence
• Substance Abuse
• Homeless
Once you have located an agency for each of the social problems, you will write a summary (at least 1 paragraph) of the services that each agency provides. Be sure to identify the pros and cons of the services provided. Do NOT copy/paste from the agency’s website. Remember to use in-text citing and to cite your references.
In the next paragraph, explain how clients access those services. (If that information isn’t available online, you need to call the agency and ask.) For example, do they apply online, make an appointment over the phone, or go in to the office to fill out paperwork?
Finally, based on the course material, discuss the influences that might lead a family to not seek out services when they are in need for the above social problems. What do you think can be done to change that?
Requirements for this assignment paper:

3. Double-spaced with 12 point Times New Roman.
4. Be sure to incorporate information from course readings, textbook, or other library sources to support their discussion and directed to properly cite all sources of information by including in-text citations and a list of references.

Unit 6 Assignment Interpersonal Communication
For this project, use the concepts in Units 5 and 6 and your own observations to identify the roles of verbal and nonverbal communication in interpersonal interactions.
Tune in to your favorite television program, or section of a movie (you should watch at least 20-30 minutes for enough interaction to analyze). Watch the show at first with the sound turned off so you can observe and analyze the nonverbal communication (you can record the show or watch it on a network website so that you can view it more than once).
As you view the program, examine the nonverbal communication that you see taking place and take notes. For instance: Who is sitting close to other people? Who is motioning wildly as he/she speaks? Who is hitting or touching another person? What emotions do you see being displayed? Do you see anyone breaking a social norm? What about personal appearance? Atmosphere?
Then watch the show a second time with the sound. Take notes on your thoughts as you watch the verbal and nonverbal interaction. Now, that you have all these observations and your notes, you are ready to answer the project questions:
1. What is the name of the show? Who are the main characters and what are their relationships to each other?
2. What are five nonverbal types that you observed in the program? Explain with details from the program.
3. Was it easy or difficult to understand what was happening in the action while only observing the nonverbal cues? Explain with examples.
4. What affect did the nonverbal communication have on the characters involved?
5. When you viewed the verbal and the nonverbal together, explain a situation where they contradicted each other. When this happened, which did you believe? Explain why with specific examples.
6. What parts do verbal and nonverbal communication play in effective interpersonal communication?
7. What did you learn from this project?

Unit 9 Assignment Interpersonal Communication
For this project view the video “Jan and Ken” by clicking the following link and then clicking the triangular play button in that window: Jan and Ken. Use the concepts in Unit 9 to answer the following questions on conflict in interpersonal relationships:
1. Using the chapters on language and emotions to help frame your answer, suggest two ways that Ken could open this conversation more productively. For instance, clearly expressing his emotions and using “I” language.
2. How do you perceive Jan’s effort to convince Ken to forgive her? Based on what you have learned in this chapter, suggest two ways she might more effectively seek Ken’s forgiveness.
3. The conversation so far seems to be framed in a win-lose orientation to conflict. Each person wants to be right, to win at the expense of the other. How can Jan and Ken move their conflict discussion into a win-win orientation?
4. Review the eight conflict-management skills discussed in the text. Identify three examples of these skills in the dialogue between Jan and Ken.
5. Identify three places in the dialogue where Jan and Ken missed opportunities to manage conflict successfully.
6. What did you learn from this project?

sport management
Based on the speaker presentation, the assigned readings and the class discussion of the case write a response to the key issues of interest to you that were surfaced on this topic. Here are some ideas to help focus your paper (you do not need to answer all of these questions):
-What seemed particularly insightful in the presentation?
-Which issues require more consideration?
-Where you do stand on a controversial issue?
-How does your view of a controversial issue relate to where the speaker,
author or a classmate stands on this issue?
DO NOT JUST SUMMARIZE THE PRESENTATION, your job is to respond to what has been said.
Once you have selected a topic or topics, you need to do two things:
1. Connect with what has been said personally – what experiences have you had that give you an interesting perspective on the issues discussed?
2. Play ideas in the presentation off ideas circulating in the media – what do published sources have to say about what was said. What do academics have to say about this topic?

Some suggestions to how to approach different types of research papers:
• Business Case / Advice Paper: The best paper reflects a genuine case, where the business and
legal issues are clearly identified and analysed. A proposed solution is preferred.
• Mock Newspaper Article on a Chinese business law policy: The best paper identifies the policy
and its implications for businesses, and it is presented clearly for the audience – the general public.
• Research Paper: The best paper identifies a researchable question, it has a tight structure, and
the research is evidence based and correctly referenced e.g. journal articles, the law itself, if doing a
comparative piece, information from the other jurisdiction, etc.
