Illustrations or figures should be used if they enhance your topic. These are appropriate if they better explain the content in the body of the paper. Don’t use them if you just want to “pretty up” the paper. Likewise with tables. If you have a large amount of data, numbers, indications or contraindications a table would best suit your need. For an illustration or table use the following format (under the figure or table):

Figure (#). Explanation of the figure and identify where you obtained the figure.
Table (#). Explain the table. Identify any abbreviations used in the table.

A position paper states your position on a topic. As an example, HFOV is better at treating patients suffering from swine flu than other ventilator modes. This position then drives the rest of your paper. Position topics must be approved by me. This is to make sure that a position is relevant.
