Organization choice
Module Assessment

1 Choose an organisation that you work for, or are familiar with.
– Briefly introduce the organisation and the products and services it provides.
For Example:
Morrison’s is a food retail business that operates more than 500 stores, 130 M local stores and online home delivery. The business is mainly food and grocery and produces a lot of the food they sell from their own manufacturing plants giving close control to quality and provenance, every week 12 million customers pass through the doors and are served by 125,000 colleagues (Morrison’s 2014). Morrison’s has expanded and come a long way from the very first store opening in 1899 to now boasting the fourth largest retailer in the united kingdom. [Introducing the Organisation] Recently within the food industry has been the influx of new competitors such as Aldi and Lidl, these have changed consumer preference by more people looking towards the discount retailers. This has caused Morrison’s to lose market share and customer base and change needs to be done to be a real competitor within the food retail industry. [Problems the organisation facing] These changes below are designed to encourage consumers to shop at Morrison by reducing queuing, addressing empty shelves and reducing the cost to shop online. [Your proposal]

2 Investigate your chosen organisation to evaluate how it is currently performing, and identify three operational areas that require change.
– Start off by briefly introducing your chosen organisation and explaining what 3 changes you have identified and why you believe they should be made
– For Example: [You can describe the proposed changes and analyse them] – Change 1:
– Change 2:
– Change3:
Another change that could be implemented is doing a free delivery charge for non-peak times as currently Morrison’s charges £1, £2, or £3 delivery charges depending on the time of the day also you will have to spend over £40 to receive the shop, whereas Tesco offer under £25 you incur a £4 charge but there is no minimum spend and if the shop is over £25 pound there is no cost (Tesco 2015). Sainsbury’s also offer a lower minimum basket spend of £25 pound but do incur a £6.95 pound delivery if under £40, if the shop is over £40 then a charge of between £2.95 and £5.95 is incurred(Sainsbury’s 2015). So one change for Morrison’s is to lower the total basket spend from £40.00 to £30.00 and to offer no charge for non-peak times.

3 From the changes that you have identified, select one change that you want to make.
– Review the literature on project / investment appraisal and identify what methods / criteria can be used to do this. At least 4 academic references are required to underpin this literature review.
– From the review, choose the project / Investment appraisal criteria and evaluation method(s) that are appropriate for your changes and organisation
– Evaluate all proposed 3 changes, using the same evaluation methods / criteria, and from your analysis choose the change that you will plan to implement
