CCC ENGL209-75 Week 10 – RR Draft(2016).docx 02/11/2016
Week 10 – AR / RR Draft – (for pts – see Week 13)
Write the 5-8 pages AR / RR Draft that conforms to the following guidelines:
1. Topic: It uses a topic & stance / purpose approved by instructor earlier in the semester (Week 3).
2. Report Type: It can be an analytical report or recommendation report or a combination of the two, where you evaluate and make a conclusion or recommendation. Note:
DO NOT WRITE AN INFORMATIONAL REPORT. Remember a good recommendation or analytical report clearly identifies a problem or goal and eventually its solution.
3. Length: A minimum of five (5) pages and a maximum of eight (8) pages. You will be marked off it is less or more than the given guideline. Length is of the report
itself. It does not include title page, outline, works cited or the visuals.
4. Sources:
a. You paper should include a minimum of five (5) sources – no more than three (3) Web sites (no Wikipedia entries) – the college’s electronic database sources are not
considered Web sites.
b. The body of the paper must include in-text citations in MLA format – things such as quotes, statistics, facts, and other information that is not considered common
knowledge must be cited as well as graphics and visuals taken from other sources. Your textbook in the appendix about MLA shows a number of ways to do in-text
citations.
c. The paper must include a Works Cited page in proper MLA format. Make sure you use MLA (NOT APA).
5. Title Page: It must include a title page.
6. Outline: Your report must include an outline that should match up with sub-titles in the report. The outline should be developed from the outline assignment.
7. Format:
a. Your paper must have a header or footer on every page of the report, excluding the title page.
b. Your paper must be in 12 point, Times New Roman font, if you are not taking into account Chapter 12 – Designing with Visual Elements.
c. Your paper must be double-spaced with each paragraph’s first line indented. This is required even if you are using principles from Chapter 12.

8. Extras:
a. Your report may include a glossary and appendix if needed. You will not be marked off if it is missing.
b. Your report may include any visuals necessary to illustrate your topic or item. You will not be marked off if it is missing.
9. The Paper Itself:
a. Content: Your report should be logical and systematically address your topic so that your audience understands the topic and your stance or recommendation. The
outline should be a guide to how your paper is laid out. Remember recommendation and analytical reports do not just inform, they guide and recommend.
b. Grammar: Your report should:
i. use proper spelling – remember spell check will not catch usage errors
ii. have no contractions – no formal report uses contractions
iii. use proper grammar – no run on sentences or sentence fragments, correct use of commas and other punctuation, proper breaks in paragraphs
iv. be written in 3rd person – formal papers are written in 3rd person – there should be no use of 1st or 2nd person – you will be marked off for use of I or You or
any of their variations.
Note: Your draft should be as complete as possible. The more of your draft that you have complete, the more material I have to work with and comment on. It is to your
advantage to have as much of it as possible completed.
Special Note: Your draft will be turned into the Turnitin tab in Blackboard for Week 10. Formatting Requirements:
1. Assignment should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document (Microsoft Works is not acceptable).
2. Save your document in the following format: wk10-yourlastname (example wk10-defeo – then let the extension default from your program).
3. Assignment should follow the guidelines given above.
4. Since the paper has a title page and headers/footers, DO NOT format this assignment in the traditional academic way. See your textbook for recommendation report.
