Refelection
Order Description
Students will complete a brief (4-5 page) final reflection on the potential contribution of mindfulness to their own social work practice. Instructors will evaluate the essays on evidence of inclusion and understanding of class material, insight into meditation practice experiences, and ability to apply both to social work practice.
Please reference course readings, lectures and practices, as appropriate, along with insights from your individual practice to reflect on the following. IT IS OK TO BE HONEST HERE – self-reflection and insight are far more important than achieving goals or benefits described by others. And I promise I won’t take it personally
How has your understanding and experience of Mindfulness and Compassion meditations changed this quarter?
How successful were you in developing a daily(ish) meditation practice? (Really, be honest here). Did it differ for Mindfulness and for Compassion meditations?
Did you observe any changes in your capacities for mindful awareness and for extending compassion to yourself and others? Did you notice any benefits for your self-care and wellbeing? In your Social Work practice? For your understanding and engagement with social justice issues?
What potential do you see for Social Workers to use these meditation practices? Looking ahead to your own professional development, do you think it would be helpful to maintain your personal meditation practice? Why or why not? (OK to be honest here too – these practices may or may not be right for you)
