EXPERIENCING THE WORLDS RELIGION
1.One of the central beliefs of Judaism has been that historical events reflect the will of G-d. Explore the philosophical challenges posed by such beliefs in light of
twentieth-century history, particularly the Holocaust and the creation of Israel. How might we best approach such difficult historical subject matter?
2. Explore the concept of ‘Eco-Judaism’, how might this represent the current view of how we see climate/environmental issues? Do you feel that all beliefs systems
should have a ‘credo’ or thought relating to environmental concerns? Why or why not?
3. Many people are surprised to discover that the greatest Israelite heroes (from the Hebrew Bible) are portrayed in a very human way. They are not idealized saints,
but flesh and blood people with distinct personalities. They possess both strengths and weaknesses that affect their lives and those around them in dramatic ways.
Identify some of these traits and trace the lives of these people. With whom do you identify and why?
