Essay Question: Discuss the political, economic, and social forces that promoted union (helped to bring the nation together) and disunion (threatened to tear the country apart) in the United States from the end of the war of 1812 to the outbreak of the Civil War (1815-1860). The United States underwent many technological, economic, political, and social changes during these 45 years. It is possible that some of these changes promoted both union and disunion.
