Stagecraft assignement
STAGECRAFT RESIT
Although this resit assignment has a slightly different structure to the Portfolio, its aims are the same. In order to successfully complete the resit you must demonstrate that you have achieved the module’s learning outcomes (which can be found on Moodle). You might find it helpful to read through the Portfolio Guidelines document, the lecture slides about it and about self-reflexive writing, and the Portfolio FAQs (all found on Moodle).
Resit task:
2500 – 3000 words (not including footnotes and appendices)
Pick an existing play. Choose one which will allow you to best demonstrate the knowledge and understanding you have gained about your specialism throughout the course (you cannot choose the same play you used in your Presentation assignment). For this resit task you will create hypothetical plans and/or designs towards a production of this play. Depending on your specialism you might want to focus on the play as a whole, or on specific scenes and/or acts. Create a minimum of six relevant documents (i.e. mood-boards, designs sketches, floor-plans, SWOTs, schedules/timelines, prop lists, budgets, risk assessments…) and include them as appendices. The main body of your writing should address the following:
– What would your main contributions be towards the production, and how would your specialism contribute towards the processes by which this hypothetical production is created, realised and managed; etc.?
– What key skills from the first part of the module might you use, why, and how would you apply them?
– What challenges might you face in your work and how you would you overcome them?
– How has your understanding about your specialism developed during the module (both in taught sessions and through your practical involvement in the project), and how is this reflected in your hypothetical production?
You must make sure to include:
– Research (using a wide range of sources such as books, articles, interviews, videos) to contextualise your work, you may also want to reference other productions and/or the work of professional designers and stage managers;
– A full bibliography;
– Appropriate and specific technical vocabulary relevant to your specialism;
– Discursive footnotes which expand upon your discussion and which make reference to the appendices;
– A conclusion which evaluates your creative process and your hypothetical work, and which summarises your key learning outcomes.
