THE EXAMINATION OF INTERNATIONAL LEGAL ENERGY FRAMEWORKS TOWARDS UNDERSTANDING FOREIGN ENERGY INVESTMENTS AND OVERCOMING ENERGY INSECURITY IN ECOWAS STATES

The Energy Charter Treaty and International Energy Charter are unique international legal instruments focusing specifically on investments in the energy sector, transforming regulatory landscapes and sensitive to regulatory and policy changes and other associated risks. Examining the ECOWAS region and the diverse energy challenges it faces, the issue of energy insecurity is clearly looming. The enhancement of energy availability, provision, safety, consistency and quality is in contention. However, issues such as lack of physical infrastructure, finance, subventions, state regulation and sporadic political disturbances hinder the facilitation of energy carriage and transfer. To overcome this energy problem, it has been pointed out that several actions, one of them securing energy investments, must be undertaken. Notwithstanding the abundant energy resources within ECOWAS.hence, it can be stipulated that mitigating financial barriers to investments in energy projects and businesses in the ECOWAS region must be addressed and energy potentials utilised. providing contracting ECOWAS States and their investors certain standards of protection and mechanisms to resolve disputes relating to investments in the energy sector and ensuring more predictable legal frameworks to foster large international investments in the sector are required. The aims of the study are to examine the ECOWAS region and the energy security issues it faces, to showcase the issue of foreign investment in the energy sector and its relationship to energy security, to consider whether foreign investment in the energy sector can address the energy security issues highlighted, to examine international energy framework policies and other measures that could increase the funding of energy sector projects and lastly, to measure the possibility of similar energy legal frameworks in ECOWAS.ESSAY should please include table of contents and bibliography SOME USEFUL INFORMATION
