disparities. and the other that highlighted in blue. PLEASE ANSWER ONE OF THE QUESTIONS LISTED BELOW:1.Where does Dr. LeNoir’s argument fit into Dr. Ja’s
characterization of the two primary theories that explain the origin of health disparities? How do their proposed solutions to health disparities differ, and how do
they overlap? 2. When dealing with a major and persistent problem, it can be tempting to throw everything against a wall and see what sticks. But as we know, health
spending has limits, especially public health. What standards do we use right now to determine which programs are “successful” and deserve more funding? (Among other
topics, you might think back to the Swamp Nurse discussion.) What might these standards be lacking, and what kinds of programs might we be missing as a result?3.
Gloria Steinem once said, “The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.” Dr. LeNoir advocates that patients “demand appropriate care” and “get upset”
about healthcare disparities, just like they would about other unfair treatment. In contrast, Dr. Ja only goes so far as to characterize disparities as “troubling” and
doesn’t focus much on direct intervention with the people who actually experience these disparities. Is this difference the result of their top-down vs. bottom-up
approaches? Which approach, if either, do you think will be more effective at creating change? 4. Dr. Ja recommends that the healthcare community “double down” on
efforts to address disparities, while Dr. LeNoir says that the current efforts don’t work and a new approach is needed. Which recommendation do you support, and why?
