War, Humanitarianism & Law – Summative Assessment You recently started working for Jennifer Welsh, the UN Special Adviser on the Responsibility to The current R2P
response (if any) and feasible future R2P responses to one (and only one) of the current crises in Ukraine

This a specific memo syle essay and instructions have to be followed strictly!War, Humanitarianism & Law – Summative Assessment You recently started working for
Jennifer Welsh, the UN Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect. She asks you to prepare a well-researched and well-argued essay (in memo style) that sets out
the current R2P response (if any) and feasible future R2P responses to one (and only one) of the current crises below:Ukraine (before 14.02.2014)Jennifer Welsh makes
clear that you should only apply the World Summit Outcome version of R2P – not the ICISS version or other versions. That’s because the UN has to work with the
authoritative version of R2P agreed upon by member states in 2005.The essay should focus on what the international community (and particularly the UN) can do to fulfil
its responsibility to protect under Pillar II and/or Pillar III. While the essay should present different sides, you need to make an argument for what you think is
best and justify your choice. Unfortunately, your boss remembers you just did a module on “War, Humanitarianism & Law” so she asks you to draw on readings and
analogous country examples from that module. The essay should only look at the situation as of 14 February 2015. In other words, do not include events (no matter how
dramatic) after that date. The reason for this is so that you do not need to continually update your summative assessment as events (inevitably) change between now and
the hand-in date. You can only use facts that were publicly reported on or before 14 February. Of course, you may reference journal articles, op-eds, reports, etc.
published after that date – but for their arguments, not their facts. InstructionsThe word count does NOT include footnotes and bibliography. There is a 10% margin on
the word count. If the essay is shorter than 2700 words, the marker may consider it more likely to be superficial. As per the Law School’s rules, the marker will not
read past the 3300 word mark on longer essays. The essay should be appropriately referenced: OSCOLA for Law students; Harvard for Politics/other students. !!Some other
