1) An emergency is often means different things to different individuals, however in the context of emergency management there some very specific definitions. Please provide the definitions for the following terms

• Emergency response procedures
• Emergency Plan.

2) In a laboratory identify three potential emergencies (either internal or external to the organisation and the work area) that could arise. Please list 5 different types of emergencies that could affect the work environment.

3) Name the two key Australian Standards on emergency management which provided guidance in regard to the identification of specific types of emergencies.

4) To help assist in identifying potential emergencies and help develop and emergency action plan there are a number of individuals and organisation who may be able to assist. Please provide a list of 6 specialist advisors/agencies that could assist identify potential emergencies.

5) How are you going to ensure that problems or deficiencies with emergency management systems such as emergency protection systems, evacuation systems and emergency control equipment are carried out?

6) Most organisation have in place a OHS/WHS Policy, Injury Management and Rehabilitation policy, Incident, incident and near-miss investigation policy and First Aid Policy/Procedures. What other policies do you consider appropriate for a laboratory based organisation? (Identify maximum 4)
7) What is the difference between a policy and a procedure?

8) Describe the difference between Positive Performance Indicators (PPI’s) and Lag time or Outcome Performance Indicators. Please provide at least 2 examples of each in your answer.

9) Name the 4 principles that make up to what is commonly referred to as the Continuous Improvement Cycle.

10) Identify the elements of an OHS/WHS MS, consider what must be put in place to satisfy each element of the plan and determine the tools and procedures most often used to satisfy each element of the plan.
