DescriptionStudents are required to complete a research project as part of the course. Students must choose a topic related to one of the three areas represented in the Criminal Justice System (police, corrections and the courts). The paper will need to be at least five (5) FULL pages (this means to the one inch margin at the bottom of the fifth page) in length (12 point, Times New Roman font, double-spaced, 1″ margins), cite at least five (5) sources and be formatted in the APA or MLA style. This means you must have in-text documentation and properly cited resources. If your paper is not correctly documented you will receive an automatic reduction of 20 points. If you do not have a full five (5) pages (six (6) with your Works Cited/Bibliography page) you will receive a reduction of 10 points per page and 5 points per half page. You may use your textbook as one source and no more than two (2) internet sources. You MAY NOT use Wikipedia as a source. This is an online encyclopedia that users can add to and delete information from. This is not a valid source and there is misinformation found frequently.
I would like for the paper to focus on fraud, the different types, conviction rates, statistics, etc., but specifically government assistance fraud. I want to make a point that government assistance fraud is a big problem, is overlooked, and should have a higher conviction rate. I’m from North Carolina, so it would be nice to include some specifics on this state (government assistance usage, and how much fraud is committed, etc.)
