1. You are to review the vision and mission statement of the company and analyse its internal and external environment.
• Check that the organisational vision and mission are still current and that they inspire and energize; and help create a mental picture of where the organization is heading and are supported. Make any changes or refinements to the vision or mission statement as required
• Review the organisational values and check that they align with the vision and mission statement
• Analyse the organisation’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats – SWOT analysis – to see the company’s strengths and weaknesses, threats from the external environment and come up with opportunities for the future
• Analyze political, economic, social, and technological developments in a global context – PEST analysis
• Determine information requirements and undertake research and seek advice from experts to deliver relevant information
o Undertake Scenario planning – what if this, what if that
o Undertake trend analysis
o Undertake Porter’s five forces model to understand where the power lies in the business
o Review the product life cycle
• Consider co-operative ventures that are supported by risk and cost-benefit analyses, are consistent with the organisational vision, mission and values, and provide for due diligence
This will provide you with an analysis of the organisation’s own capabilities, those of their existing potential competitors and allies and the external environment. From this analysis formulate strategic objectives and strategies needed for the future

• Identify future labour needs, skill requirements and options for sourcing labour supply.
